Genesis 37:20
“Come on, let’s kill him and throw him into one of these cisterns. We can tell our father, ‘A wild animal has eaten him.’ Then we’ll see what becomes of his dreams!”
Life Lesson
Today’s word (Word Of Reflection Daily) begins after Jacob gives Joseph a beautiful robe. Verse 3 says because “Jacob loved Joseph more than any of his other children because Joseph had been born to him in his old age….” It begins also after Joseph shares details of his dreams with his half brothers.
In pondering over today’s passage the thought which comes to mind is to be careful of being jealous. To nip it in the bud. For conceivably, envy can lead to something much more serious. Perhaps a deeper jealousy which may have first started with spite and bitterness. Then without warning or very little noticing it could maybe progress potentially toward, hate, rage, revenge to literally murder.
Hence, my take away today is remembering often Galatians 5:21 which says, “envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.” Moreover, remembering Proverbs 27:4 which says “Anger is cruel, and wrath is like a flood, but jealousy is even more dangerous.” And lastly, Proverbs 14:30 which says, “…jealousy is like cancer in the bones.”
