Genesis 41:16
“It is beyond my power to do this,” Joseph replied. “But God can tell you what it means and set you at ease.”
Life Lesson
Today’s word (Word Of Reflection Daily) begins after Joseph interprets two dreams. One of the Pharoah’s cup-bearer. The other of Pharoah’s chief baker. It begins also after both dreams come true as Joseph predicts. The chief baker is executed and impaled on a pole. The cup-bearer on the other hand is released from prison and later restored to his position. It is here wherein Pharaoh wants his dream interpreted too.
In meditating over today’s passage several thoughts come to mind. First, with almost no warning for a very important and perhaps a life threatening opportunity, Joseph is ready. Ready because of time spent previously getting to know God better, time spent establishing a right relationship with him and time spent patiently waiting and all-the-while obeying. Second, when asked by Pharoah in Verse 15 saying to Joseph, “… “I had a dream last night, and no one here can tell me what it means. But I have heard that when you hear about a dream you can interpret it.””, Joseph knows where his success comes from. More importantly, not only does he know it comes from God, he acknowledges it by giving God the credit. Quite the opposite of the Amalekite who of attempts to steal credit by claiming to have killed King Saul. Because of it we see the consequence in 2 Samuel 1:14-16 wherein King David responds to his claim by saying, ““Why were you not afraid to kill the Lord’s anointed one?” David asked. Then David said to one of his men, “Kill him!” So the man thrust his sword into the Amalekite and killed him. “You have condemned yourself,” David said, “for you yourself confessed that you killed the Lord’s anointed one.””
Hence, my take away today is continuing to strengthen by relationship with Jesus by spending more time with him in prayer, getting to know his word better, waiting patiently, obeying and doing/living his word through action. Moreover, realizing in thankfulness and gratitude all I have, all I am and all I will be are because of Him and thus all credit, glory and honor belong rightfully to Him.
