Job 17:10
“As for all of you, come back with a better argument, though I still won’t find a wise man among you.
Life Lesson
In today’s word (Word Of Reflection Daily) Job continues to defend his innocence against his three friends who had a reputation of being wise. It is here wherein Job in his circumstance cannot find any wisdom in them and tells them to return with a better explanation. In pondering over today’s passage several thoughts come to mind. First, I too believe these men had a faulty view of wisdom. In believing prosperity and success are the result of and have a direct correlation with performance. In other words, believing and trying to convince Job it was because of the way they lived and by the way they thought. Second, I also agree with Job in his rebuttal, understanding and perspective. That success and prosperity are earthly measures defined by man and the world and are not rewards by or from having faith in or obeying God. Similarly, affliction, trouble, misfortune and catastrophe do not prove faithlessness nor demonstrate disobedience.
Hence, my take away is remembering and finding comfort in knowing that God too agrees with Job’s observation, and not with his friends, as summarized succinctly well and affirmed in Job 42:7 which says, “After the Lord had finished speaking to Job, he said to Eliphaz the Temanite: “I am angry with you and your two friends, for you have not spoken accurately about me, as my servant Job has.”
But Job had some issues with the LORD ..chapter 38 : )
Yes he did like most of us, me included. However praise God it is how we finish that matters most. Thanks Ken!
