2 Corinthians 10:12
Oh, don’t worry; we wouldn’t dare say that we are as wonderful as these other men who tell you how important they are! But they are only comparing themselves with each other, using themselves as the standard of measurement. How ignorant!
Life Lesson
Today’s word (Word Of Reflection Daily) begins as Paul defends his authority and just before he warns against boasting and pride. Saying in Verse 17, “As the Scriptures say, “If you want to boast, boast only about the Lord.””
In meditating over today’s passage the thought which comes to mind is resist our natural tendency to compare. We learn that from a very young age. When growing up among siblings and as we fend for parents attention and affection only to be further reinforced in school as we compete for grades and class standings. Even in sports or other types of competition comparing is evident. All part of the process/system. However, one drawback/danger to comparing is that it often leads to thinking better of ourselves. Potentially, then on to arrogance, pride and being prideful. Selfishly taking instead of humbly giving credit (to God) where and to whom it rightfully belongs!
Hence, my take away today is knowing, acknowledging and remembering Proverbs 8:13 which says, “All who fear the Lord will hate evil. Therefore, I hate pride and arrogance, corruption and perverse speech.” Moreover, Isaiah 2:11 which says further, “Human pride will be brought down, and human arrogance will be humbled. Only the Lord will be exalted on that day of judgment.” Lastly, 1 John 2:16 which says, “For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world.”
