We had a very special guest passing through this weekend. A first time visitor to our beautiful Hawaiian islands, from LA to going to Manilla. A family member who happens to really love steak.

And so, without hesitation, we made the easy choice to come to “DK Steakhouse”. IMHO one of  the best steakhouse’s (if not the best) in Hawaii. Why” because they are known not just for fabulous 22 oz Bone-in Dry-Aged Rib Eye Steak (30 day is the bomb) but also for their wonderfully excellent service as well. Managing Partner, Ivy Nagayama, and her great staff never fails and always succeeds to give us the royal treatment. Two very good reasons for returning. Plus, not only do they do steak well, we love their appetizers and other delights.  Oh and not to forget sister restaurant “Sansei” which has excellent quality sushi and serves outstanding Japanese cuisine right next door.

However, aside from their mouth watering onolicious food and outstanding service, we look forward to going back simply because they always make us feel so special and treat us like family!

Wow it’s hard to believe one year has flown by so quickly and it’s now the time of year where we get to celebrate three October birthdays again. Yup, son Matt, daughter-in-law Hiromi and yours truly. Actually, I celebrated my birthday twice (hehehe). Both times at fabulous and one of our all-time favorites, DK Steakhouse. And as with last year, we were yet again “blessed” by an exceptional dinner celebration made wonderfully memorable by GM-Ivy Nagayama, along with her warm, friendly, customer service oriented and remarkable staff. Two of  their treats to us were the Fire Cracker Shrimp Dynamite and Panko-Crusted Seared Freshi Ahi Sashimi from sister restaurant, Sansei. Both awesome and winners in our book! To honest, beside their mouth watering onolicious food and outstanding service, we also look forward to going back because they always make us feel so special and treat us like family!

Some our favorites include their 22 oz Paniolo Rib Eye, 22 oz Bone-in Dry-Aged Rib Eye, Paniolo Filet Mignon, Sansei Filet Mignon and now their Wednesday nite special, a four-course live Main Lobster night delight.

Here are few pictures (click on picture to enlarge) along with a slide show to share:

On August 22, 2010, my son Travis celebrated his 29th birthday with wife Hiromi, brother Matt, Matt’s girl friend Lilii and dad Wes. We visited both grandpa Suzawa and grandma Suzawa before dinner since both are in nursing homes.

On April 3, 2010, my brother celebrated his 60th birthday with the Suzawa clan. My sister in-law Dani and niece Erin treated us to a most wonderful and memorable dinner at Hakone Restaurant in the Hawaii Prince Hotel. As always, food there was fabulous, company great and fellowship wonderful!  Here are pictures of brother Harvey’s celebration.

Tonight was truly a night to remember. A night where you place good memories into your heart to cherish over a lifetime. Yes blessed to be able to celebrate October birthdays for son Matt, daughter in-law to be (very soon) Hiromi and yours truly at DK Steak House in Waikiki with the family & fiance’ (minus dad and mom).

Here is a picture of our party. From left to right: Son Matt, Lilli – Matt’s girlfriend, Lisa B. – fiance’, Lisa’s son Christian, me, Hiromi – soon to be daughter-in-law and Son Travis.

Dad chose to rest this evening since he had cataract eye surgery on Wednesday. Mom was unable to join us as well. As posted several times previously, she continues to remain on a feeding tube. Despite missing mom and dad, we had a great time talking story and enjoying each other’s company!

DK Steak House known for their fabulous food and comfortably refined atmosphere, did not disappoint us either. Kudos to the chefs, food was extraordinarily fine! Besides their fabulous entre’s, side dishes and desserts were prepared to perfection. We literally ate to our hearts content, until our tummies could not hold any more. Service level more than matched the excellent food, and from the get-go, was simply outstanding. Restaurant Manager – Michelle, and Server – Gail, took care of our every need. They sure do know, without a doubt, how to do service right!

Our evening began on a high with Office Manager – Teri, totally surprising us with some exceptionally tasting seared ahi and creatively arranged spicy ahi sushi from sister restaurant, Sansei. Separated only by a full service bar, Sansei is conveniently located adjacent to DK Steak House.

Entre’s included their juicy and flavorful 22 oz Paniolo Ribeye Steak with a dry rub seasoning, melt in your mouth 28-day aged 10 oz Filet Mignon, succulent Carribean Lobster Tail with drawn butter and their most popular item, the broke-da-mouth 22 oz dry-aged bone-in Ribeye Steak. We further enjoyed their garlic mash potato, creamed corn, sauted onions, soup and salad.

Here’s one of the many entre’s we thoroughly enjoyed and stuffed ourselves with:

For the finale, all 3 October babies were treated by DK to Panna cotta, a wonderfully creamy chilled Italian dessert. Their Panna cotta is served with a raspberry glaze delicately drizzled on the top and sides. The others in the party tasted and loved the Panna Cotta too. They also shared their own dessert family style. A huge 2 story 22 oz pleasure filled house-made Mudd Pie with vanilla & strawberry ice cream, topped with hot fudge, butterscotch and mac nut sprinklings.

I am so thankful and give praise to Him for allowing us to finally celebrate dad’s and son Travis’ birthday. Dad’s 82 and is in good health. Travis 28 is fine young man now, readying to be married this November to fiancé Hiromi. Dad and Travis are both August babies. Because of our busyness we were not able to get together until last night. Eight of us in all enjoyed the fabulous “Hakone” Weekend Buffet, known for the choicest toro, salmon and hamachi sashimi. Hakone’s buffet is also well known for its exotic varieties of ichiban quality sushi such as: uni, ebi, abalone, hokigai, ika, salmon eggs, etc and a wide array of exquisitely prepared japanese dishes. To top off dinner, we literally overfilled our tummies with scrumptious (and delicately prepared) assortments of  dessert. We ate, shared stories and fellowshipped to our hearts content! All the while, though, I did feel a little bit of bittersweetness deep within my heart. Sweet in the sense that we were blessed to spend quality time together as a family. Bitter (maybe sad is a more accurate feeling) since mom, on a feeding tube, could not be there with us! I did tell mom today while visiting her that if there is another miracle in the works for her (which would be the ability to swallow), God willing, that I promised to take her to Hakone for miso soup and ice cream!  Yup, the Lord did indeed bless us with a wonderful evening…full of only the fondest of memories!
