We had a very special guest passing through this weekend. A first time visitor to our beautiful Hawaiian islands, from LA to going to Manilla. A family member who happens to really love steak.

And so, without hesitation, we made the easy choice to come to “DK Steakhouse”. IMHO one of  the best steakhouse’s (if not the best) in Hawaii. Why” because they are known not just for fabulous 22 oz Bone-in Dry-Aged Rib Eye Steak (30 day is the bomb) but also for their wonderfully excellent service as well. Managing Partner, Ivy Nagayama, and her great staff never fails and always succeeds to give us the royal treatment. Two very good reasons for returning. Plus, not only do they do steak well, we love their appetizers and other delights.  Oh and not to forget sister restaurant “Sansei” which has excellent quality sushi and serves outstanding Japanese cuisine right next door.

However, aside from their mouth watering onolicious food and outstanding service, we look forward to going back simply because they always make us feel so special and treat us like family!

Lisa’s daughter, who came home from college to spend Christmas here (and returns to UC Irvine soon), has craved for sushi from day one. Actually, a bit longer. Since she hasn’t been home in about two years. So what better way to fulfill her wishes by partaking in extraordinary, innovative, new wave sushi at one of our very favorite restaurants, Sansei in Waikiki, winner of a Hale ‘Aina Gold Award and named one of America’s eight best sushi restaurants by Travel + Leisure.

Choosing was again a no brainer. Sansei consistently serves the very best sushi, comes up with the most unique creations and provides outstanding customer service. From their exquisite Panko Crusted Ahi Sashimi Roll and pleasurable Salmon Skin Roll to their many divine nigiri delights it could not get any better.

Moreover, our server Susanna, delightfully catered to our every need, made sure water glasses remained full and tummies more than satisfied. All-the-while Managing Partner, Ivy Nagayama worked alongside the Sansei team. Even taking time to surprise us with a very delicious Blue Crab Dip from sister and next door restaurant, d.k. Steak House.

Here are just a few pictures of our fabulous meal for you to enjoy:

Below is a slide show of our family’s Christmas 2010. In reflection, I am so grateful and very thankful to have shared Christmas with grandma/mom and grandpa/dad Suzawa in good health once again. It truly was another miracle and a most wonderful blessing one could hope ands ask for, which could have only come from Him!

Please enjoy as the pictures pretty much says it all!

Wow it’s hard to believe one year has flown by so quickly and it’s now the time of year where we get to celebrate three October birthdays again. Yup, son Matt, daughter-in-law Hiromi and yours truly. Actually, I celebrated my birthday twice (hehehe). Both times at fabulous and one of our all-time favorites, DK Steakhouse. And as with last year, we were yet again “blessed” by an exceptional dinner celebration made wonderfully memorable by GM-Ivy Nagayama, along with her warm, friendly, customer service oriented and remarkable staff. Two of  their treats to us were the Fire Cracker Shrimp Dynamite and Panko-Crusted Seared Freshi Ahi Sashimi from sister restaurant, Sansei. Both awesome and winners in our book! To honest, beside their mouth watering onolicious food and outstanding service, we also look forward to going back because they always make us feel so special and treat us like family!

Some our favorites include their 22 oz Paniolo Rib Eye, 22 oz Bone-in Dry-Aged Rib Eye, Paniolo Filet Mignon, Sansei Filet Mignon and now their Wednesday nite special, a four-course live Main Lobster night delight.

Here are few pictures (click on picture to enlarge) along with a slide show to share:

With sister Cheryl and nephew Blaine in town, the Suzawa clan (minus mom) had a chance last night to get together at dad and mom’s home. We picked dad up earlier from his extended care home and was so blessed to enjoy talking story, playing cards and simply enjoying each other and each other’s company. Since mom and dad are in their twilight years and getting together as we use to every Friday night doesn’t come often nor easy, we made sure to make the most of it. And for sure it was indeed mission accomplished as we did come away with only the fondest of memories which I believe everyone will appreciate always and treasure forever.

Here are a few pictures to share which I hope captures the moment for which words cannot begin to adequately describe.

Several days have passed by since attending the 2009 UH Warrior vs Boise State football game at Aloha Stadium. Once again My fiance’ – Lisa B., her son – Christian and I were blessed with an invite to the game and pre-game mixer co-sponsored by Kaiser Permanente and ESPN 1420. We were likewise very grateful to be invited for a third straight year.

In reflection, all three mixers that we’ve attended (from 2007-2009) were equally fabulous! Food and drink delicious and plentiful. Hosts always wonderful, making sure we were well fed and having ourselves a great time. In retrospect, however, I believe our mindset was much different that first time around. The first one was during the memorable 2007 undefeated season, led by then Heisman hopeful, Colt Brennan. Thinking about it now, I can still say we were definitely more excited about the game than any pre-game event. Don’t get me wrong, Kaiser and ESPN did an outstanding job hosting, however, compared to the electricity and hype surrounding the game, well, it just didn’t come close. To sum it up, in 2007 the game was a forethought and the pre-game mixer event an afterthought.

UH vs Boise State at Aloha Stadium

Fast forward to this past weekend’s mixer/game. It’s remarkably sad how things have changed in just three years. In contrast to 2007 wherein the game was the main event, most 2009 invitees would wholeheartedly agree this year was the very opposite. Kaiser’s and ESPN’s mixer event became the forethought whereas the football game (unfortunate but true) became the afterthought.

Suffice it to say, the evening’s outcome matched our preconceived expectation. UH got killed by Boise State 54-9, losing their QB Byrant Moniz and committing 6 turnovers along the way.

Fortunately, we were treated to excellent food, refreshments and prizes at the mixer event. In addition, challenging each other over Nintendo Wii tennis and bowling added further to making it the one to be remembered most!
