While waiting for another beautiful Hawaiian sunset during my evening walk along the shore of Ala Moana beach on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, I happen to glance in the swallows as the endless tide began to recede. In the midst of constant ripples and barely beneath the surface were these tiny hermit crabs. Busy in their world and perhaps unaware of mine. Almost instantaneously a thought came to mind. A thought of how these once alive unique sea shells where again moving to and fro. Almost as if they had never left us. A second chance if you will. Just like my second chance. Gifted freely to me when I accepted Christ, became a believer and then now a sharer/messenger of His Good News. In that moment I almost completely forgot about the sunset. The reason for being there.

Anyway, I hope you also enjoy these unique creatures that made my walk and day a little bit more special.

Orange glow at Sunset Oahu HI

In doing my evening walk yesterday, I was blessed to catch another beautiful evening sunset off Ala Moana Beach Oahu, Hawaii.

Pinkish Blue Sky at Sunset Oahu, HI

While it is almost commonplace here it was nevertheless awe-inspiring and fully appreciated still.

I was further blessed to witness a flock of heron’s feeding in the Ala Moana canal which is situated within the park. It was truly a remarkable sight to see. Here is a short clip of it:

Slightly overcast and cooler than normal temperature, fiancé – Lisa B. made the perfect suggestion on the perfect Martin Luther King holiday to hike up to the Makapuu Lighthouse. Located on the easternmost end of the island of Oahu, Hawaii, it’s a very comfortable one mile hike with a 30 degree incline from the parking lot. The main path is mostly paved, with many hikers of all ages wearing slippers. I would suggest walking or hiking shoes, as you will most likely veer off the main pathway from time to time. Views are breathtakingly fabulous with many great vantage points to enjoy the beauty and wonder of the Ka Iwi coastline & cliffs as well as to view majestic yet graceful frolicking humpback whales during whale watching season. On a clear day, like today, one can see almost to the horizon’s edge, with the island Lanai easily visible too. We even saw a path which led to tidal pools and a blow hole along a rocky shoreline below. Ocean condition and weather permitting, we plan to explore the trail on our next trip back.

Here are photos of the Makapu’u Lighthouse, Ka Iwi shoreline, Rabbit Island and many beautiful miniature flora, most of which are no more than a few centimeters in size for you to enjoy.
